General Practice is a great career. Your time with us should be fun yet challenging. It's your first opportunity to work independently and learn to cope with uncertainty. Your clinical knowledge will be good, but you have to learn how to use it effectively, taking into consideration the patient's ideas, concerns and expectations and understanding their social circumstances. You will also learn about the management and business side of General Practice.

You will have a named GP trainer to organise and assess your work, but you will receive care, teaching and support from everyone at the Practice. This includes two longstanding trainers, two other experienced GPs who are currently working towards trainer accreditation, our practice manager, the practice nursing team who include two nurse practitioners and an extended primary health care team (district nurses, health visitors, physios, CPNs, chiropodist..) based at the Surgery.

You will be working towards the nMRCGP, of which there are three formative and summative elements:

Workplace based assessment
Applied knowledge test (AKT)
Clinical skills assessment (CSA)

Each of these elements is independent and tests different skills. Evidence for the workplace based assessment is collected in the e-Portfolio. Each element must be passed. More information with links and downloads are available in the separate sections of this website.

You are welcome to visit the Surgery, telephone Julie Lawton, our Practice Manager, but as you are aware Practice training posts are now allocated by regional office.

What do you need to bring with you on your first day?

There's actually quite a lot, especially if you wish to get paid! See the download on the right for the list.

We will provide you with an induction pack, again a copy is available on the right as a download.
