Chlamydia screening programme

Monday, 4th January 2010

You may have heard of Chlamydia through the media or your friends. Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection most common amongst young people aged 24 or under. Approximately 1 in 10 sexually active young people are infected; most do not know that they are infected. Often there are no symptoms, but if left untreated it can lead to serious health problems such as infertility (unable to have children). Fortunately Chlamydia is very easily treated with antibiotics.

It is recommended that all sexually active young people under the age of 24 test themselves for Chlamydia once a year. It is easy to get tested. You can order a self testing kit on-line at www.b-clear.org.uk and it will be sent to you in a plain brown envelope. Simply wee into the pot provided, fill out a form and send both back to the laboratory in a freepost clinical envelope.

If you would rather talk to someone before taking the test or would prefer to go for a check up at a clinic contact your GP or go on-line at www.b-clear.org.uk or phone b-clear direct on 0800 0320899 for further information
